Wakefield Bar Gig 01/09/2022
Completely different scenario from the last gig at this venue. That was a different time slot, later in the evening (I was the final act), and it was crowded and very noisy; but the punters were still appreciative of the music and applauded each song.
So this gig I was the opening act, 6pm start after Minh completed the set-up and sound check, and the bar was just waking up with customers beginning to drift in and settle with drinks. The murmur of conversation began as the staff carried on with their various duties, and a couple of musos from the later acts came in and put their stuff in the temporary Green Room before sitting down to have a listen.
The gig went pretty well. Minh made a few adjustments to the equipment and the levels as I travelled through the set, and the applause was more than satisfactory given that there were so few there, although the regulars were rolling in at more frequent intervals.
I managed to get through 13 of my songs in the allotted time-frame; I was happy with that! I knew a couple of the other musos and had a bit of a chat and a drink with them before heading back home.
My next gig at the Wakefield Bar (upstairs at Edgar’s Inn at the Ainslie shops) will be at 7-8pm on Thursday October 20.
